A Budapest breakdown

If you’re travelling to Budapest, you’re probably a little Hungary for the experiences that such a fabulous city has to offer! We’ve provided you with a breakdown, or a to-do list if you like, of the best things to see if you’ve got a free time to explore your surroundings. Take a look through the best bits of a beautiful concrete jungle, a city with a difference.

1. Visit one of the spectacular Spa’s

Nicknamed ‘The City of Spas’, it would be silly to miss taking a dip in one of the many thermal baths. Sit back and relax in luxury!

2. Explore the Parliamentary building

We’re lucky enough to moor up right on the doorstep of the Hungarian Parliamentary building, so take a photo to add to your picture-perfect collection – you can even take a tour of the grounds – it’s one not to miss.

3. Take delight in a night at the Opera

In such a historical and culturally fascinating city, it would be a shame not to go to the Opera, wouldn’t it? With tickets readily available online, take a look and see what’s on when you’re there… It’ll be a story you’ll be telling for years to come.

4. Visit the ‘Shoes on the Danube Bank’ memorial

A moving memorial remembering the Jews who lost their lives in World War II. It’s said that some of the Jewish community were forced to remove their shoes before being shot on the riverside by the Arrow Cross (a Nazi party led by Ferenc Szálasi). Located just along from the Parliamentary building, it’s a sight we truly recommend if you’re a history fanatic.

5. Take a stroll along the Chain Bridge

Many of the photos you’ll have glanced at in awe will have contained the iconic Chain Bridge. Why not become part of the scenery in this picture-perfect location?

6. Shop ’til you drop at the Central Market Hall

It’s the largest indoor market in Budapest – something pretty special since it was built in the 19th Century! Packed with local produce, it could just be the perfect place to gather those gifts for your loved ones!

7. Take a taste of tradition

With plenty of gorgeous restaurants and quirky bars, there’s something for everyone to love. Push yourself out of your comfort zone and try some traditional Hungarian cuisine – after all, a comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there!
